From the First Tooth

The program promotes oral health in babies and young children, from birth to three years old at well visits with their healthcare providers. The initiative provides training to healthcare providers in oral health assessment and fluoride varnish application at no cost. They work in close partnership with other state child oral health programs such as WIC and community health initiatives. MaineHealth, MaineGeneral Health and Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems are working in collaboration through their respective delivery systems to achieve spread. They are working in partnership with Center for Research to Evaluate and Eliminate Dental Disparities at Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine. The initiative is being funded by the Sadie and Harry Foundation. During phase one of a two year pilot, grants were provided to organizations representing multiple business models. These outcomes and lessons have provided the foundation for the Foundation to extend the program to meet all age eligible children in Maine.
